The Hospitium
The Hospitium is a 14th-century Grade II* listed building located within York Museum Gardens, originally serving as a guest house for the monks of St Mary’s Abbey. Today, it operates as a distinctive wedding venue that combines medieval architecture with a central city setting.
Positioned within landscaped botanical gardens, the venue offers access to a variety of outdoor backdrops for photography, including the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey. Its location in the heart of York means it is easily accessible for guests, with the train station, city centre amenities, and a wide range of accommodation options all within walking distance.
The building features two principal event spaces. The downstairs hall accommodates up to 100 guests for a wedding ceremony, showcasing exposed stonework and original timber beams. The upstairs space seats up to 120 guests for a wedding breakfast and can be arranged to suit formal dining layouts. For evening receptions, the venue can host up to 150 guests.
A dedicated events team provides on-the-day coordination and practical support, ensuring the building is set up according to agreed plans and that facilities are in place for both ceremonies and receptions.
