York Wedding Venues
Wedding & Civil Partnership Venues in York
Your guide to perfect venues for registry office weddings, elopements, large and small civil ceremonies, combined with relaxed, professional photography that fits your day and your budget.
If you’re getting married in York, you’re genuinely spoilt for choice. The City of York registrars will attend over 30 licensed venues across the city, as well as hosting ceremonies at York Register Office itself, including the larger Bootham Suite and the smaller statutory room for very intimate, legal-only ceremonies.
One of the things I love about York (and something couples often don’t realise at first) is just how much variety you can find within such a compact area. You can have medieval timber beams, grand Edwardian hotel glamour, botanical gardens or even a theatre stage, all within a short distance of each other.
If you’re drawn to history and character, venues like Merchant Taylors’ Hall, Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, Bedern Hall and the Guildhall have that unmistakable “old York” atmosphere. Think oak beams, stone floors, stained glass and beautiful textures that feel timeless in photographs.
If you’d prefer everything under one roof, York’s hotels offer practical ease alongside style. The Grand, Middlethorpe Hall, Grays Court, The Milner, Delta Hotels by Marriott, Hilton York, DoubleTree, York Pavilion Hotel, Malmaison, Hotel du Vin and Middletons all combine licensed ceremony spaces with reception rooms and accommodation. From a planning point of view, that can make your day feel relaxed and seamless, especially if the weather turns.
There are also some wonderfully unique options. The Hospitium in Museum Gardens gives you abbey ruins and greenery right in the centre of the city. Impossible York brings bold interiors and personality. York Racecourse and the Yorkshire Air Museum are brilliant if you’re planning something larger with space to breathe.
York Register Office itself is a popular choice too. The Bootham Suite is bright and elegant for up to 50 guests, while the statutory ceremony room is simple and purely focused on the legalities.
When I chat with couples about venues, I always suggest thinking about more than just capacity. Consider how it will feel when you walk in. Is there space for group photos? Where will guests mingle? What happens if it rains? And most importantly — does it feel like you?
The good news is that York delivers on atmosphere, convenience and iconic backdrops in equal measure. Whether you’re planning something intimate or a full-day celebration, there’s a venue here that will suit you perfectly.
