York Register Office
Set in an elegant 1840s Victorian mansion on Bootham, York Register Office offers a charming and intimate setting just moments from the city centre and Museum Gardens. This Grade II listed building blends historic character with a calm, welcoming atmosphere, supported by friendly and professional staff who help keep ceremonies relaxed and well organised.
The main Bootham Suite accommodates up to 50 guests and combines traditional touches, such as a central aisle and York stone flooring, with a bright, contemporary feel. For a simple legal ceremony, there is also a small, no-frills room designed for the couple and two witnesses only.
Outside, landscaped gardens with a rockery provide a picturesque backdrop for photographs, with around 20 minutes allowed for confetti and portraits. Ceremonies are typically short yet meaningful, lasting between 15 and 25 minutes, making it an ideal choice for couples seeking a classic city-centre celebration.
You can check live availability and book your ceremony directly online through York Registrars, making it quick and straightforward to secure your ideal date. Once you’ve chosen a slot, it’s confirmed with a £50 deposit — no back-and-forth or uncertainty.
Registrar ceremony fees are:
Monday to Thursday: £676
Friday and Saturday: £784
Sunday and Bank Holidays: £847
You must give notice at least 29 days before the wedding. Both of you attend together with proof of identity and address. It’s a routine appointment and the registrars guide you through it clearly.
